BREAKING NEWS: Las Terrenas.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia, has conducted a meeting with businessmen, local and international government officials and social communicators to thank them for being part on nanother year of the representation of the Dominican Republic in International Tourism Fair Fitur.
Javier Garcia said the government through the Ministry of Tourism, is working to entrench this destination as the best choice for vacationing in the Caribbean region.
In the meeting were the president of the National Association of Hotels and Restaurants (Asonahores), Haydee Kuret de Rainieri, Dominican ambassador in Spain, Cesar Medina, the Dominican consul general in Spain, Mark Cross, among other personalities.

Creation of a Commission for Caribbean cruises
To establish rules and fees to operate in the region
BREAKING NEWS: Las Terrenas.- Officials of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA by its initials in English) have proposed creating a commission to cruise across the region, which ships moving through the region’s countries would have to make applications surrender their permits and operating licenses.
The initiative was put forward by Peter J. Odle, president of CHTA, during the recently concluded edition of Caribbean Marketplace. Dominican Republic redesigns its tourism strategies

BREAKING NEWS: Las Terrenas.- The president of Asonahores , Haydee Kuret de Ranieri, has revealed that the country is revamping its strategy for promoting safe tourist destination both for holidays and business and bring new investment, because the important thing is trust.
It also noted that representatives of the private tourism sector and government officials are kept in complete harmony and working in a coordinated manner in the process of promoting the country, caring environment of the poles hoteliers and the proper functioning of the market represented the main generator of foreign exchange, and one of the biggest generators of jobs.
In that order, the tourism official has said the world tourism industry was in 2009 one of its worst years, but in the case of the Dominican Republic, although growth was reduced, the figures remained positive numbers with a 0.37%.

Residents of Las Terrenas ask to to revoke the No Objection

BREAKING NEWS: Las Terrenas.- Foreign residents in Loma Bonita community, municipality of Las Terrenas, Samaná, asked the Tourism Ministry to revoke its no objection
decision for a commercial construction in the area where the use is residential.
They said that while all the residences are of two floors here, the new building will have five floors, affecting privacy and ocean views from some of the neighbors.
They also claim that the construction affects a wetland area that begins at the foot of the hill, asking for the immediate cessation of construction. They allege that on several occasions they contacted the owner, Philippe Schaak, but did not obtain any results.
The complaint is contained in a letter to the architect Maribel Villalona, Director of Planning and Projects and a motion for reconsideration of the permit to submit to the Minister of Tourism Francisco Javier Garcia, which ask to intervene to prevent irreparable harm and in order of good neighborly.
They argue that they decided to invest in the country to live in peace with their families, and so ask for protection.

The flow of non-resident foreign visitors to the country by air rose in January this year by 5.81% compared to the same month of 2009, according to statistics provided by the Central Bank released by the Ministry of Tourism.
Francisco Javier Garcia, Minister of Tourism has reported that in January 404.264 tourists arrived in the country. Luz y Fuerza Company of Las Terrenas brings help to Haiti
Reconstruction of distribution power lines damaged by the earthquake
BREAKING NEWS: Las Terrenas.- The Luz y Fuerza C. por A. Company of Las Terrenas, and the National Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives (NRECA), of the United States signed a mutual aid work to assist in the reconstruction of distribution power lines damaged by the earthquake of January the 12th in Port au Prince.
As a result of this agreement and with the assistance of USAID both institutions sent equipment and personnel who worked with the Haitian authorities in the work of replacement of electrical energy in the Haitian capital.
The Luz y Fuerza team was supervised by Mr. Gilberto Ayala, working with the brigade of EDH, Haiti’s electrical company.
In a very moving ceremony in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, publicly thanked the Haitian delegation, on behalf of its people and its government, the cooperation of NRECA International, the Dominican Government and people for all the support and solidarity received.
