Only some minor damage are reportedThe category 2 hurricane Irene, which was expected to affect Las Terrenas finally spared the village as it moved more at north of the country.
Some rain and gusty winds were felt on Monday night and Tuesday morning, but the seafront was not affected greatly by the passage along the coast of the cyclone Irene.
Some of the weakest roofs and coconut trees couldn’t resist the wind gusts of last night, but no major damage was reported.
The beaches were cleaned early this morning and will be ready to be used as soon as sun comes back !
As for the rest of the area in Rincon de Las Galeras, la Guazuma and El Majagual de Sanchez, as well as Samana, about 30 families were taken to shelters, because the sea got into their homes, according to people linked to the Civil Defense of the area.
In the community of Matancitas in Nagua, three houses were affected by the penetration of the sea.
