In a note, the IDB emphasized the importance of this project, highlighting the fact that it will reduce to less than two hours the travel time from Santo Domingo to Samaná.
The Tourist Atlantic Boulevard (BTA) in Samaná, was built thanks to a 44.8 million dollars loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
The Bank also highlighted the fact that the boulevard generated about 800 jobs during the construction phase and will create more than 100 jobs during the operation phase.
The European Investment Bank (EIB), the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) and the French Development Agency (AFD-PROPARCO), also participated in financing the project.
The new road infrastructure will facilitate the movement of local producers, traders and tourists between the peninsula and the south of the country, encouraging economic and social development in this region which is a priority for the Dominican Republic
, said Hans Schulz, Manager of the Structured and Corporate Finance Department (SCF) of the IDB.
