National Program for Sustainable Management starts on Las Terrenas beaches

The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) will begin in the coming weeks to implement the National Program for Sustainable Management, which begins with an intervention on four beaches located in the eastern and northwestern of the Dominican Republic.

Maribel Villalona, ​​Planning and Projects Director of Mitur, said the initiative aims to establish appropriate mechanisms for sustainable management of natural beaches, such as regulations to establish parameters for the development of tourism and the recreational use of the coastline.

We have already designed and approved the investment to be implemented in the coming weeks on the beaches of Macao, Bonita, Las Ballenas and the one that goes from the Fishermen Village to Punta Popi, in Las Terrenas, Samaná.

Maribel Villalona talked during the XXV Exhibition Asonahores 2011. She added that the project will be shared with the private sector and the coastal communities. It will also be accompanied by an educational campaign so that all sectors are able to contribute to sustainable development of the base and the main product of our tourism industry, the sun and the beach.
