AMET agents confiscate noisy mufflersThe agents of the Metropolitan Transit Authority (AMET), began to control the noisy vehicles in Las Terrenas.
This operation aims of course to reduce noise pollution in the village, which is produced mainly by motorcycles with noisy mufflers.
This represents a true relief for the inhabitants and the tourists, who now live in a calmer and healthier place, since the noisy vehicles were removed from traffic.

Rediculously noisy motorcycles. I’ll believe it, when I see it. Your article said that the authorities removed the noisy mufflers. I ask the question, what mufflers ? Most of these inconsiderate individuals are runnining around with a straight pipe for a muffler. it is such an easy fix. Your local police just issue citations, tickets, to the offending party with a stiff fine. If they don’t pay the fine, take away their dirivers license. I am assuming that these individuals have to take some kind of a driving test. Not too long ago we were in a taxi in downtown Santo Domingo on a Saturday afternoon. All of a sudden the traffic lights stopped working, as they are known to do. The electricity had gone out. Thirty years ago, when they turned on the Columbus Light House, every light in Santo Domingo would go out. People used to joke, when are the officials going to realize that we don’t have enough electricity to run both. Within several minutes there was total grid lock. There wasn’t an ounce of courtesy being displayed by the drivers. The next thing we know, our taxi cab driver drives his car over a curb and into a beautiful park filled with families. He is driving on the grass and people are running everywhere. I told the driver to stop the car we were getting out. He wanted to know why we wanted out. I told him because, you are breaking the law and you are endangering families with young childres enjoying an afternoon at this beautiful park and you are driving like a crazy person. My wife and I continued to our final destination, a friends house, on foot. I have several friends who live in Las Terrenas. I can’t wait to ask them, is the new anti-noise ordinance working ? I’ll bet they say, what anti-noise ordinance ?
