The multiculturalism of Las Terrenas, besides food and customs, is based on the practice of sports that comes from all over the world.

Water sports

As it’s a coastal village, Las Terrenas is a paradise for those who like water sports. Its beaches are great to surf, windsurf, kite surf etc… These activities are part of the village culture.

It is almost impossible to go to Playa Bonita and Playa Coson without seeing silhouettes of surfers or windsurfers.

Punta Popy and Portillo beaches are most visited by those who practice kitesurf. Diving is also widely practiced in Las Terrenas, and is very interesting to discover what’s under the sea.

Sports in the play

Besides water sports, you can practice in Las Terrenas a variety of physical activities.

The sports hall, called Play or Polideportivo, located uptown, welcomes basketball tournaments. Sometimes, volleyball and football are also played there. Besides this sports facility, a stadium was built so that the public could enjoy the Dominican favorite sport: baseball. Recently, a young native of Las Terrenas, Faustino de los Santos, signed his first contract with the Oakland team.

Races and marathons

Many inhabitants here go run on the beach in the morning or afternoon to stay in shape. What’s better than running on the seashore, admiring the sunrise or sunset ?.

But since the Las Terrenas 10k marathon was organized, the discipline has grown as a collective sport.

Dancing and horse-riding

In this country where dancing is like breathing, this physical activity practiced by many tourists and residents. Many of them succumb to the rhythm of salsa, bachata and merengue. Two dance schools offer their services in Las Terrenas.

Horse-riding is in the other hand a great way to discover the magnificent landscapes of the area while practicing a physical activity.

Motocross and BMX

In Las Terrenas, many young people like riding bikes and bicycles. On the road that goes to El Limon, a motocross track is available for the lovers of this discipline.

Sports on TV

While Haitians and Europeans follow soccer on television, Dominicans and Americans don’t miss an important game of basketball or baseball.

In Las Terrenas, it’s very common to see people gathered to enjoy together their favorite game.
